NEW FOR 2019 - 50/50 SURF & YOGA RETREAT

At Tiny Whale we're equally passionate about Surfing and Yoga. For 2019 we're offering an innovative new package that brings together some of the most talented and experienced surfing and yoga instructors that Europe has to offer to deliver a unique retreat.

The 50/50 package will equally focus on both surfing and yoga. Yoga will be delivered by our in house instructor Miri with a view to guiding your self-discovery as well as developing your individual practice and yoga knowledge. Alongside this you'll receive surf coaching from an ISA level 2 instructor in small groups of no more than 3 people; this approach allows us to focus on a personalised coaching plan, carefully analyze your surfing and track your progress as you develop your surfing ability.

Yoga and surfing go hand in hand in promoting a healthy body and mind. This retreat will provide you with a week of high quality surf coaching for real improvement in your surf skills and a carefully thought out yoga program that not only complements each days surfing but also leaves you at the end of the week feeling relaxed, refreshed and ready to take on the world again.

MEET MIRI

Miri is Tiny Whale’s fully qualified in-house yoga instructor. As a certified Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT®) she has over 7 years teaching experience, regularly attending continued teacher training workshops all over the world. She brings the most up to date knowledge and proven techniques to her classes, making use of both traditional and modern perspectives.

The disciplines of yoga and surfing go hand in hand. Both bring physical transformation and mental enhancement.

As a surfer, Miri has first hand experience of the physical benefits of adding yoga to your surfing routine, in building balance, flexibility, and strength. Mental benefits include increased focus and awareness of your mind, body and surroundings.

 

 

I have developed a unique blend of Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa flow and Yin yoga in my classes that perfectly complements a full day of surfing.

As with many sports, surfing uses the muscles of the body in a repetitive unbalanced way i. e. some muscles work much harder than others meaning imbalance and tension occur over time. A key focus in yoga is awareness of the body, recognising areas of tight muscles and working through poses to correct them. Groups of muscles are simultaneously lengthened and strengthened through both dynamic and static poses. This brings balance to the body rather than exacerbating existing areas of strength and weakness. Miri will teach you ideal pre-surf warm ups and post-surf stretches to manage tension in the body, keeping you supple, strong and ready for the next wave.

LOCATION

Nestled between the orange trees, our dedicated outdoor yoga space is perfectly located for peaceful sessions at our lodge in the serene countryside of the Algarve’s idyllic south coast. Away from the hustle and bustle yet still close to the nearest town, we’re perfectly located for quick access to the stunning beaches of the south and west coastlines, well known for their prime surfing spots.
